Dominick Cruz has been known to be quite famous and popular in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and has been a regular fighter under the Bantam weight category. Dominick has made his presence felt in the bantam weight division for quite some time now and has been in the top ten ranking for the category when it comes to the pound for pound fighting.

The initial career of Dominick Cruz saw him as a contender in a Rage in a cage match and he did not have quite a lot of luck with it. He managed to put up a good fight, but eventually lost. However this was not enough to make him loose hope and he managed to continuously put up a tough fight.

Dominick Cruz has managed to put up quite a good show and performance over the years and the statistics have gone on to speak volumes for him. He has managed to win all his matches apart from the debut one and this actually shows the amount of effort and determination he has within him for becoming the champion. His wins have been achieved by a submission and knock out as well and he has shown immense skill and tactics to ensure that he is the best in the fighting arena.

There are many who feel that Dominick Cruz has not put in much effort and most of his wins and victories have been because of luck. However there are quite a few who have gone on to take the extra step and commented on a public forum saying that they can beat Dominick any single day. Dominick Cruz, being the defending champion for the bantam weight Championship has thus managed to instill a lot of hatred amongst fellow fighters and this goes to show that these fighters are jealous of his success and growth rate.

There were recent news and updates that Dominick Cruz will be coaching against his rival Urijah at the FX debut. The championship will see fighters from all divisions starting from light weight to welter weight and bantam weight. He needs to be quite focused and needs to concentrate hard to ensure that he manages to make quite an impact in this tournament so that it can be seen by quite a number of fighters who will be attending the show.

BJ Penn and Nick Diaz were very good friends. They were trained together. But the present situation has led certain issues over their friendship. It is quite clear that the friendship between the two wrestlers has turned into enmity. In the October last year Penn entered the ring against Diaz. A great match took place between them. But, Diaz knocked Penn badly inside the ring.

Penn was supposed to be a great wrestler. Previously he has won many titles. During this particular wrestling event BJ Penn showed full respect towards his opponent. But during the match he suffered injuries. He uploaded his pictures in one of the social networking site which clearly showed his injured face. From this it was quite clear that his old friend has knocked him down very badly. After this match Penn decided to retire from the particular sport of wrestling.

At present he is totally out of the wrestling event. Recently he has posted in his social networking profile that he wants to get back to the wrestling ring to get back his glory. He even wants a rematch against Nick Diaz. He claimed that he does not want to retire from the particular sport of wrestling with a loosing streak. He badly wants to get back to the sport. Experts say that BJ Penn has over rated himself which has led to consecutive defeats.

Penn is quite sure about his fitness and he has also recovered from the injury factors. His coach said that he is absolutely to enter the wrestling ring again. Penn needs to gain confidence to fight his opponent which can be done only recalling a new wrestling match against Diaz.

The wrestling authority has looked upon this particular matter but, no official announcement has been made for the rematch. The fan followers of Penn want to see their favorite man back in action.

Strength is what all good fighters should have. The strengths of the fighters can be defined as UFC strength (where UFC is an abbreviated form of the term Ultimate Fighting Championship). The UFC strength can be classified into two categories – physical strength and mental strength. Some fighters say that the most important strength in fighting is physical, but some fighters argue that without mental and emotional strength, fighters would be poor. I agree that a fighter needs each of these strengths.

The mental and emotional strength is as important as the physical strength. Without physical strength, a fighter will neither be able to attack nor defend himself from his opponent. Without the mental and emotional strength, a fighter will not be able to stand against a stronger opponent. So both types of strength are important for a fighter.

Attacking power and defensive power
Defensive power for a fighter is as important as the attacking power. If you want to be a good fighter, then you should be rich in both types of power. Some people say that attack is the best way of defence, but this may not be true for all the situations in the UFC fights. If you are fighting against a stronger opponent who also holds more knowledge than you, then it will not be a good decision to exhaust your energy in the beginning without guessing the possible moves of your opponent.

Energy is lost more in the attacks than the defense. So if the opponent is as strong as you or stronger than you, then do not lose all your energy in the beginning because if you do so, then after a while you’ll need to find a place to hide!

Lopez started off by training at an academy with (then an up and coming star) Wanderlei Silva. It was an amazing opportunity for anyone – though he didn’t realise how good an opportunity it was at the time!

“Back then, I just thought ‘this is just a cool experience, Wanderlei’s awesome.’ But I didn’t want to be one of those kids who was super star struck or emotional about it. I wanted to get there and train and test my limits to see how good I really was. At that age you want to be everything. I wanted to be a football player, I wanted to be a professional fighter, I wanted to be a police officer.”

“So I really wanted to see how it felt training with these guys and I saw it and it was great because it kinda opened my mind and made me realize that it really wasn’t far-fetched. It was actually something that could be accomplished. But I look back on it and say whoa, that’s not common that you see a kid at 14 going to Brazil to train with what was at the time the best team in the world.”

Manny Pacquiao is ready to enter the Octagon for an MMA Fight. Now, before you start lining up an opponent, think about what it would cost to get Pac Man into the octagon. Pacquiao was guaranteed $12 million for his March fight against Joshua Clottey. At this time, no MMA organization could guarantee that kind of money, let alone the rumored $40 million Pacquiao would earn in a fight with Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

To think that he would sign with either Ultimate Fighting Championship or Strikeforce for a fight is foolish. At this time, no MMA organization could afford that kind of payout.

In a recent article ESPN.com’s Jake Rossen posits an interesting scenario, sidestepping the current MMA promotions.

Pacquiao is wildly popular and has no need for Dana White and the UFC. Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, could easily put together an MMA card that would feature Manny against a fighter that would suit Manny’s skill set. If it happened we’d get our running trainers on and be dashing for the ringside seats as soon as they became available!

An MMA match such as this would be a farce, but in the end would it be any different from the recent Randy Couture-James Toney fight? Toney and his skill set had no business being in the octagon with the former UFC champ. Yet there he was, “shaking out” to a Couture arm triangle in the first round of their fight.

The MMA is one of the fastest growing martial arts program. The ever-growing popularity of MMA has provided American soldiers with more access to training in mixed martial arts and ground fighting. Although the situations presented in a MMA training setting are not life threatening, many of the elements of conditioning and the foundation of the sport do translate into combat self-defense.

Krav Maga, an Israeli reality based system, translating into ‘contact combat’, cleverly integrates the best techniques from various martial arts for the sole purpose of self-defense. It is accessible to soldiers and law enforcement stateside, and even the guys involved in Forex Trading! Its application takes on a very different look than its civilian program, which is available all over the United States. The United States military provides its own hand-to-hand-combat training program that bring mixed martial arts directly to the soldier while serving. These systems are well-organized and deal with self-defense with combative gear on and attacks with knife, hand guns, automatic weapons and riffles. One program is offered Through the United States Army.

The Army Combatives Program offers an efficient experience in combatives, giving soldiers MMA training and fighting experience. The Army’s program is helping to maintain an evolving set ofskills for soldiers beyond their basic training. It also helps to foster a continued interest in MMA training while between tours. If soldiers maintain their fighting skills and conditioning while at home, it benefits their entire mental and physical being if deployed back into the field.

The Army’s Combat Training program has a large number of soldiers enrolling to gain a set of mixed martial arts skills. The program is known to help build battlefield confidence and its advancement system allows various levels of soldiers to train while creating goals that provide motivation. One of our US Army’s training officers has shared with me that, “We aren’t going to win the next war because we are better at hand to hand combat, but we will win because of our willingness to close the distance and engage in close combat with the enemy. I think the Army Combatives program fosters a warrior spirit and forms a decent foundation to ground grappling, moving to more advanced skills of Muay Thai and Kali. ” An important design element of the Army’s program is that is must be able to train 30-100 soldiers at one time. They focus on breaking down steps very simply so that survival under press are in the forefront during a combative attack. The mixed martial arts that are part of this program also serve t
o relieve stress while still teaching soldiers how to monopolize on the surge of adrenaline that occurs when under stress and faced with aggression.

Another recently returned soldier who served two tours in Afghanistan enjoyed his time in the Army’s Combative Training program. Since returning to Chicago, he has sought out MMA training to keep in shape and fine-tune his skills, anticipating a return to the Middle East. He enjoyed how the program was organized, offering him three levels of combatives. ” It gave me a combination of BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) and wrestling, then we ended with MMA as the more advanced level. In the basic training they train us with boxing, bayonet and some BJJ. For me it was valuable because it gave me physical hardiness and conditioning along with the mentality of combat, taking someone down and actually finishing them. Only MMA continues to give you that opportunity.”

The phenomenal rise to popularity of mixed martial arts is the main reason why more and more individuals want to learn the various MMA fighting techniques. However, only a few spend time in discovering how successful MMA warriors started out their career on the Octagon. If you are a beginner, it is important to note that there are various approaches that you have to consider if you want to become a full-fledged MMA fighter. In fact, most of the approaches that were adopted by renowned MMA fighters are also accessible to most beginners.

There are many options that you can adopt in your effort to become a skilled and effective MMA fighter. The most common and popular way to become a mixed martial artist is by becoming an expert on one or more forms of martial arts. Although you would need to have the necessary skills on a wide range of disciplines, being an expert on a particular fighting skill will make your transition from a single-discipline martial artist to a competent MMA fighter a lot easier. This type of learning approach was quite common during the early days of mixed martial arts, where in most cases, MMA upstarts will stick to a particular MMA fighting style to prove its effectiveness and superiority over the other fighting styles.

Most of the marquee warriors on the octagon have started out by entering the MMA amateur circuit. This has been the route of most professional MMA fighters today. Their primary aim in joining the amateur ranks is to sharpen their skills and endurance before they enter the more competitive MMA professional circuit. Just like in other sports, amateur fights are not paid, and the fight record is not carried when you turn professional. This is one of the reasons why most fighters prefer to take this route as they are given some leeway to commit mistakes and get a taste of losing bouts. It is during their stint as an amateur fighter that they are able to hone their fighting skills and learn from their mistakes before they finally make the jump for the professional circuit.

A third approach is turning to be the most highly preferred approach to becoming a full-fledged MMA fighter these days, and this focuses on cross training. Its main objective is to go through one of these programs by fighting on local shows before moving up to the professional ranks. In most instances, these programs are managed by professional MMA fighters such as the Miletech fighting systems, which is owned and managed by Pat Miletech. Watching MMA videos online can also help you to learn if you have money to spend.

In more than 2000 years, you will think that many things have changed already. Although, it seems that when it comes to sports, modern practices actually have resemblance to ancient ones. Well this is particularly evident with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), United States’ increasingly popular sport today. In either way you might refer to it, Ultimate Fighting or Mixed Martial arts; this is in fact a contemporary form already. Taking a closer look, MMA pound for pound in fact resemble an Ancient Geek competitive sport referred to as pankration. This kind of sport puts together Greco-Roman wrestling together with a series of martial arts fighting techniques.

Pankration can be traced backed to 648 B.C. During that time, it was newly introduced sport in the Olympics. Just like MMA pound for pound today, the rules and regulations in pankration also apply. For instance, biting as well as eye gouging is also prohibited in this sport. Apart from these two foul plays, anything else is allowable in pankration just like in MMA. Pankration is a combination of two Greek words: pan which means “all”; and kratos which means “powers.” Most of the time, pankration matches can last for hours with certain results leading to the death of one or even both of the fighters. Because of brutal nature and the strength of fighters exhibited, it quickly turned out as the most popular sport in the Olympics.

Unfortunately, the popular of pankration decline when the Roman Empire rose to power. During this time, other sports were introduced to the people and to different sporting events that pankration slowly lost hold of its popularity. In the contemporary Western World, it was wrestling and boxing which took the interests of people traditional martial arts steadily gained popularity in the East.

When the 1900s cane, Brazilian Carlos Gracie, who known to have an extensive training background in judo and learned under the care of well-known Japanese champion Mitsuyo Maeda, started training his four brothers the very skill that he learned previously. In the year 1925, Gracie together with his younger brother Helio relocated to Rio de Janeiro. The two brothers decided to put up a jiu-jitsu studio and later on came up with the “Gracie Challenge.” This served as a challenge to those who want to compete or fight against the two siblings. Which started as way attracting attention to their only just opened academy, the Gracie Challenge was able to draw fighters in several different disciplines and that is from boxing, martial arts, karate, capoeira (a form of Afro-Brazilian fighting) and even wrestling.

Soon, a considerable number of fighters joined these matches bring along with them a relatively huge number of spectators. Afterwards, the matches were flocked with so many people it had to be done in larger areas like the Brazilian soccer arenas. Ultimately, the sport steadily became Brazil’s second most well-liked sport after soccer. It was in the year 1993 when MMA pound for pound finally reached new heights.

Just like the old saying “mind over matter”, most fights are not won just by physical strength, it in fact the mind which drives most fighters to win. Consequently, true strength accompanies by a distinctive training can help a person win a match. A proper mindset is important considering that you have to continuously condition your body so that strength is sustained and the body is constantly in its best condition.

Although Bruce Lee may be considered rather small as compared to other known fighters all over the world, it cannot be denied that he is in fact one of the finest. Bruce gained this recognition and won matches not because he is considered as the physically strongest but in fact he was the most controlled and strategic of them all. A lot of fighters tend to get emotional when they are in a fight, however, this is just simply the biggest mistake that they will ever do. When a fighter lets his emotions take control of him, thought process and judgment tend to get disrupted and this can only risk the fighter into losing the battle.

Muhammad Ali was also well-known for his trash talking episodes. Ali did not just do such in order to gain attention from the public and the media, the idea behind is that he was trying to provoke his opponent’s emotions. The famous boxer came up with a strategy referred to as the "rope a dope." In this strategy, Ali will play possum and then allow the fighter to wail on him whereas he leans on the rope. This play will give the opponent over confidence letting them exhaust all of their energy during the initial rounds. Once his opponents tires out, Ali will come to attack his opponent exerting little effort to tackle him down.

When this happens, it is guaranteed that the fight is a win. Thus for most MMA fighters, it is always a must to fight strategically instead of charging the opponent based on emotional outburst. Trainers and fighters a like are realizing more and more the potential of concentration and strategic thinking.

MMA is not just a sport to watch, it also offers people the option of a completely new workout. MMA trainings are considered one of the best in the planet. Since MMA fighters have to be physically strong, the trainings in MMA are specifically designed to improve overall athletic ability. From endurance to stamina and physical strength, MMA training is good for everyone.

With the continuous development of the art of fighting in MMA, so is the training for this sport. Since the potential of strategic thinking is more and more recognized in the field, MMA trainings nowadays also features trainings that help synchronize the body with one’s mind. MMA trainings also help trainees get hold of their emotion and focus on certain strategies to gain advantage in the match. With obvious physical benefits, people can not only enjoy watching MMA but it can also be a worthwhile workout.

One person who has made a career of MMA being such a great work-out is Fitness Model Melissa Lukon, whose Workout DVD has become a best-selling success story (and well worth a watch!).
