As you look over the MMA pound for pound rankings you are sure to find some fighters that you agree with, as well as a few that you feel are overrated. This is something that every MMA fan goes through, and you are probably the same as most of them. The question is: are MMA pound for pound rankings realistic? Most fans agree that the answer is no. That being said, having these rankings in place is a good thing for many reasons.

From the start, you probably agree that the MMA pound for pound rankings are good for discussion. For example, Anderson Silva is currently at the top of the rankings with Georges St. Pierre closing in quickly. You may agree that this is the right combination at the top. But guess what? There are many people out there who feel that things should be flip flopped. Along with that, there are many other fighters down the list who are also trying to work their way to the top.

There is no way of ever saying for sure that the current MMA pound for pound rankings is 100 percent accurate. Unless every fighter steps in the ring against the others on the list there is no way of saying for sure who is best and who is overrated.

All in all, MMA pound for pound rankings may not be an exact science and there is nothing wrong with that. Most ranking systems in the sports world are not fair for one reason or the next. This is a good conversation point, and one that keeps the game interesting day in and day out. With every match, somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. In the end, this goes a long way in changing the MMA pound for pound rankings.
